Delete my account or Remove my E-mail address from DB
-
I have read that you cannot or refuse to delete accounts on the basis that it can break your system or something. This seems like you have a bad system is this is the case. However I am sure there are legal issues by not doing this when someone requests, especially in this day and age.
Regardless, I do not really care if the account is deleted or not although that would be perfect. I can settle with just having the original e-mail address I used to setup my account removed from your database. I have changed it to another one that I use for spam, because I want this account to go away. However when I tried to create a new account that I want to use it will not let me use my e-mail address because it says that it is already being used. Well that is not true since I deleted it from this profile and the blog it had associated with, then I deleted the blog.
Before people start asking why I would want to do this and it doesn’t matter what your user name is etc . My answer is “It’s personal and I shouldn’t have to explain it” however I have been around the Net long enough to know people wont let it go, and will flame or push for a reason, or just accuse me of trying to do something devious. So the personal reason is I was checking out word press to setup a hosted blog from my new born daughter, however I decided not to use it for a number of reasons, and went with another product. However I setup it up with her name as the user name and used that for the blog name as well. Because it wasn’t very clear when you signed up that you can setup up multiple blogs with a single account. So now its a year later and I need to have MY own account with my user name and with my personal information because I am in the process of setting up a WordPress site of my own on my own domain.
I want this account to reflect its mind and I want the API Key for my install. So legal reasons aside from not deleting some ones information upon there request, and holding on to a persons e-mail address in your data base even after they changed it. The overall practicality of not allowing this. Most sites I have been on over the years have a DELETE ACCOUNT option that is automated and does a good job of cleaning up after itself.
It worries me about WordPress since I have just installed it and I am evaluating it against other OpenSource products that it has a problem with delete accounts. I need to make sure I can do that, and that if a user removes or changes their information that I am not still holding on to this. Not only because I want to make sure I am providing something that is expected of most users today, but to protect myself legally. I am also worried about using WordPress if it is so unstable that you cannot delete a user or any of their personal information with out risk of breaking the software.

You have to change the email address on the old acccount under options > general. That is where the “admin” email address is kept.

This is not the right place for such complaints. Use the contact support form (–> http://wordpress.com/contact-support/ ), since forum users cannot do anything about wordpress.com policies.

1. I changed from wordpress.com’s Global Dashboard -> Profile -> Your Profile -> Contact Info. I also changed in under the blog itself before I deleted the blog. There is no place I can find with “options -> general” If there is another place to change the e-mail address other than in my profile please give specific details on how to get to it.
2. This is the right place because I went to contact support and they said they where closed, which seems on since I just wanted to send them an e-mail. It said to try to use the forum. So I did. Also maybe it does need to be made visible this issue, since I think one its wrong not and two I am sure they are in a very gray legal area right now and if they are not carefull with the way the legal winds are changing if they haven’t already they could get themselves in trouble.

Also I believe this is the “Forums » Support” according to the bread crumb, and if going to the support link doesn’t doing anything but say they are temporarly closed where would you suggest I post a support problem? I only have the weekend to work on this stuff and if support isn’t open on weekends then I can either post in the support forums, or take WordPress out of the running from the applications I an evaluating.

Wait until it opens and then use the link I gave you. Most of us here, including me, are simple wordpress.com users and cannot do anything to help but sharing the information they have. That’s it.

Well I understand that not everyone can help but you would think someone in the support group may read the SUPPORT FORUM from time to time.
Also I do not have time during business hours go to a special website to get support. That doesn’t even make since, I just need to send them an e-mail. I should be able to send an e-mail 24 hours a day on any day of the week. I shouldn’t have to go to a web page between 8a-4p PST. I have a normal job and I am extremely busy. I only have time to deal with this issue on weekends and evenings.
I guess I got my answer about if WordPress is worth using. If I cannot get support via forums or e-mails then it is to much of a risk to use this product. All other quality open source products provide ways to get free support, usually it is via the community. Which is perfectly fine. However, I am not even trying to get support for the product itself, just for an account on their website which is required to get certain functionality out of their product.
This all worries me to much and makes me feel this this product is to much of a risk.
