Hi –
does anyone know how to delete a blog completely? I am making a blog for a friend. Her old blog was bioenergydomes.wordpress.com and I changed the name to bioenergydome.wordpress.com . Now the old inactive blog keeps showing up on google before the new one. I selected it “hidden” in my blogs but I guess google still thinks it is there.The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

The change you made is not retroactive. The old inactive blog will remain displaying in the search engine results. There is no way to have that removed. That’s why we Volunteers recommend marking blogs “private” as opposed to deleting them.

DON’T DELETE THE SITE! You will be really in trouble
It will take 6 months or more for the old site to disappear from Google – set the old site to private and see the section on verifying your site with Google etc and verify the sites (you will need to set it back to let everyone in long enough for the verification process to work.
Set the site back to Private and go back to Google and start putting in the old Posts and pages into a delete pages section (see Site Config. >> Crawler Access >> Remove URL) – with the site Private you should get a 404 page not found error on the Posts which means you can ask Google to remove them from their search results.
Google never seems to forget so there will be some confusion for a while.
There are some other ways probably to do the same – other should pitch in – you could also set it to “Block Search Engines” and put the new URL of the Posts in question in the old Posts on the old site and then people can click on the link to the new blog.
I hope this is not completely confusing.

I did not see your two Posts until after I had put mine in – I type somewhat slow so you had two answers in way less time than it took me for the one reply. I also did not want them to delete the site since that then takes away most of their options – thus the all caps on the don’t delete the site.

http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/I agree with auxclass. I would not delete the blog. I would mark it “private” and keep it for use as a test blog.
