Delete redundant ‘Home’ in Empire
-
Hello. I’ve been reading as much as I can, and while it’s very helpful I’m still stuck, or rather going round in circles. I’m using Empire and I can’t delete the redundant home link. I’d be very grateful for some advise. I have read what I can find in the forum, including 8 things to do before you post to the forum…so, my blog is http://katephillips.wordpress.com, but I’m sorry but I can’t link it to my name, I followed the instructions but there was no ‘website’ field to fill on my personal settings page.
When I go to Pages, Edit the Home page does not feature in the list. ‘Front page is there, so I could do something with that but the only solutions seems to be to make it a child page but I don’t want it to appear on a child page either…
I think it’s amazing that this service/ community exists and that I am able to use it at all. I’ve been on a steep learning curve with lots of frustration but I seem to be getting there now apart form a few little glitches.
Thank you in anticipation of your assistance. KateThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Pages>Edit displays the static pages you have created. The built-in “Home” tab isn’t a static page, it’s just a link to your blog front.
Yes, the only way to remove the redundant “Front Page” tab from your top navigation is to turn the page into a child page. I suppose you don’t want that because you don’t want it to show up under an irrelevant parent in your sidebar, but you can exclude it from showing in the Pages widget: hover over the page title (while in Posts>Edit), check the pogreess/status bar of your browser, get the number you see at the end of the permalink (that’s the ID of the page); then open the Pages widget, type number into the Exclude box, Save.
Users > Personal Settings does include a “Website” field – scroll down near the bottom.

Thank you. It worked, although I couldn’t get the ID number the way you suggested. I think I must have been in the wrong setting page as i found ‘website’ easily through the users tab you suggested. Thanks again. Kate

You’re welcome. If you couldn’t find the page ID number the way I suggested, then you probably haven’t enabled the progress bar in your browser; the alternative is to edit the page and look at the end of the permalink in the address bar of the browser.
