Delete site screen – string length
-
I’ve recently been notified of a problem in the “Delete site screen” in the classic dashboard at Tools → Delete Site.
As you can see in my screenshot, the string “I can’t create the site I wanted.” (link doesn’t fit into the 360px wide boxes.
Despite all my efforts to come up with a relatively short translation for the string, I wasn’t able to find one that would carry all necessary information and not break the layout.
So the question is, can we either have more screen space for our translations or can you come up with a better solution for the problem? (smaller font size; no boxes, …)
Cheers

Hi Martin,
That’s definitely ugly! I reported the issue to our team so they can take a look. I’m not sure when the team will have a chance to address it, but I’ll let you know when I have an update. Thanks for pointing that out.
In the meantime, there’s also a new way to delete sites at the bottom of the General Settings in the newer dashboard here:
https://wordpress.com/settings/general/
I checked and from what I saw the translations all fit there — the new design there is more flexible, to accommodate translations of varying lengths.

I had no idea. Thanks for pointing it out. :)

I thought so. I expected the settings screen to end below the “Save Settings” button. So I never scrolled to the end. *sneaky* ;)

I would place those three options (Change Site Address; Start Fresh; Delete Site) on a page/screen of its own and link it in the top menu. Call it maybe Site action, Site Management, Management, …
