  I’m trying to delete a web page that a friend and I posted eight years ago.

  Are you actually talking about https://reallyseriousnews.wordpress.com/ ??
  You’ll need the username and password to log in and reach the “settings” area to delete the site. You can use the “recover password” option but ONLY if you still have access to the email address used when originally creating the site.
