Delete website

    The club has decided to no longer run a website. We were in the middle of transferring management from me to the other admin user – so she now owns the domain. We no longer need to renew this though. She doesn’t know how to use WordPress so is struggling to reassign back to me so that I can delete the account.

    Can someone either transfer the domain back to the other admin on the account? Or delete the website on our behalf?

    Hi there,

    Only the owner of a domain can cancel it or transfer it to someone else. But cancelling it is very simple – the domain owner just needs to log into her account and go to https://wordpress.com/me/purchases.

    Once on that page, click on the domain, and select the option to cancel and delete the domain.

    Alternatively we can cancel it from our end, but we’ll need the instruction for that to come directly from the current owner of the domain. She can post directly in this forum thread to request that.

    Likewise the site can only be deleted by a logged-in admin. That means you’ll have the ability to delete it, but only once the domain has been cancelled. In the case of deleting a site, we cannot do it on your behalf/at your request at all.

    But you can set the site to private so it’s not accessible in the meantime. You’ll find the option to do that under Settings ->General in the dashboard:

    Hi,

    I’ve forwarded this information onto the other admin so I’ll leave it in her hands now. I’ve suggested she replies to this thread requesting for you to delete the site.

    In the meantime, can you please delete me as an admin? I no longer have any control but the platform is not letting me remove myself unfortunately.

    We’re not able to remove you from a site – the site owner will need to do that as well.

    However it looks like the site itself was already deleted, which automatically removed you as a user.
