Delete website I dont own
-
My problem is I have an old website on wordpress.com that I don’t have access to. It was created by a friend who can no longer get access to it (he’s forgotten the email he set it up with).
It has my business logo on it and some details about my business but is incomplete.
I can provide whatever proof is needed that the I no longer want the old site but I have no idea how to delete it.
I have my own login for a website I am starting at smassociatescomau.wordpress.com (in private mode) but can’t access or delete this old one at https://stephenmitchellassociates.wordpress.com/
Anyone have any thoughts?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Deleting the site https://stephenmitchellassociates.wordpress.com/ would require access to the account which is apparently lost.
If you could produce proof that the content (logo and other information) belong to you and are copyrighted to you, I guess the staff might be able to help.
I am tagging the post with “modlook” for the WordPress.com staff’s attention.

Thanks. I can send them a copy of my business registration with the relevant Australian government authority (ASIC) if I could only get an email to send it to wordpress. My logo is not trademarked unfortunately but it does show my business postal address and phone number so the business is obviously mine. It hasn’t been updated since February 2016 and it contains a lot of filler latin text so hopefully, I can get this sorted out.

Hi there,
We cannot remove a site that belongs to a different account under any circumstances. If you’re not able to provide one of the forms of verification required by our account recovery form, we cannot give you access to the site:
No information appearing on the site can be used to confirm ownership. Only unique information that could only have been provided to you by us can be used for that purpose.

@strikebuys,

Trademark and copyright complaints are both legal processes that follow very specific guidelines. Please don’t suggest it to users as a way to get around our account recovery process and remove sites to which they have lost access – we take abuse of those processes very seriously.

As explained my friend has tried your account recovery process but hasn’t access to the required information anymore and can’t recall the original email address he used to set up the site. So I cant get the site amended or made private using this process.
So it appears the only remedy I have avaialable is if I trademark my business logo that my friend used on the website and I go through your Trademark and copyright complaints process. Is that correct?
Is this remendy available if my business logo is trademarked in Australia?

Ask your friend to please email passwordhelp[at]wordpress.com with any information they do have, but I can’t make any promises. And we’ll need to deal directly with them – we cannot help someone who already admitted to not being the owner of the account with account recovery.

I cannot tell you whether this would be successful or not. Trademark complaints are a legal process, and are dealt with by a specific team who are trained in the policies and processes that apply. We do not provide advice on trademark complaints in the forums.
