Since you’re using the Jetpack plugin, it looks like you activated their Site Accelerator tools and those tools are caching your site images. Simply removing the original image from your site does not remove the cached image from the system, which only Jetpack support can do.

I want to provide a more in-depth explanation of how this feature works within our system at WordPress.com in hopes that it clarifies some things. To explain, Jetpack’s Site Accelerator caches only resized images rather than the original image.

In short, this feature processes images in this order: someone tries to load a resized image in their browser > our system receives that request -> realizes we don’t have a cache of that resized option -> fetches the original image -> creates a resized version -> caches it -> serves it to that same person. We then save that cached resized option.

On our end, if you can give Jetpack support all of the cached links (starting with i0, i1, and i2) to remove the original image and keep Site Accelerator disabled, your images will no longer appear in our system.

The only exception is if someone had saved an image URL with Site Accelerator domain OR a cached page has image URL with Site Accelerator domain prefix. Of note, this means that if you try to check to confirm if the images are removed from our system and you re-load the Site Accelerator specific URL (the one starting with i0, i1, i2), this will trigger a cache once more of the image to return.

What that means for you is that you should not re-load those URLs once they’re removed from the cache – by doing so you’ll trigger the system to cache it again. The only exception here is if you removed the original file from your site.

With that said, when I try to load that URL, I get this message:

What that means is that the cached image is no longer in the system. If you still see it elsewhere, like in Google Image search, that isn’t something we can control.

    I hope that clarifies things!
