Deleted accounts still show up as subscribers

  Four ‘subscribers’ to my blog no longer have active blogs, so why are they showing up as subscibers? Shouldn’t they be automatically deleted?

  They are (all with the usual http:// prefix and .wordpress.com suffix):

  crispwhiteshirt
  mindlessrambler
  changingmoods
  jasonj0304

  Also, I notice I have a subscriber with an empty blog: truestorybro

  Do you ever delete dormant blogs (no posts)?

  The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

  No, they never do. You just never know when someone will reopen it.

  People are showing up as subscribers because they are receiving your posts. You don’t have to have a blog here to do that: you can subscribe via email or RSS.

  The four I mentioned are WP subscribers, not email or RSS. When I click on their blog URLs it states that the blogs no longer exist.

  That doesn’t mean their global dashboard doesn’t exist. They could be reading your blogs from there.

  Yes. Username accounts cannot be deleted. http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/

  tltcl is referring to subscribers with empty blogs and empty blogs or even deleted blogs does not mean the username account disappears.

  I take your point but it seems unlikely that someone would bother to delete their own blog, but still log-on to read others. Seems like they have grown tired of blogging as they could have just left the blog dormant with old posts.

  There are literally millions of people with accounts here that do not have blogs and most llikely many of them are still reading and subscribing and commenting on blogs here. There is no correlation between deleting a blog an not ever wanting to read, comment or subscribe to another blog here.

  I have a friend here that last I heard was subscribed to around 50 wordpress.com blogs, but he has never had a blog here at all. He got the account so that he could read a couple of his fiend’s private blogs and it just grew from there.
