deleted address name
-
I was wondering if anyone knew how long it takes for a deleted blog name to be available to be used again? I wanted to change the address to my blog and I set up a new blog with that address not knowing I could do it without having to create a new one first. So I deleted it and now I can’t switch it over because wordpress says that address is being used. But if you go to that site it says it’s no longer available, it’s been deleted.
thanksThe blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sites that have been deleted do not ever have their address URL made available again. During the deletion process it mentions this several times and you had to click your agreement in the confirmation email in order to delete the blog.

that stinks. originally i was going to switch it to the new address and then pay to have the wordpress.com dropped. instead, would i be able to pay to have the wordpress.com dropped from my current blog, then switch it to the address that was deleted minus the wordpress.com….does that make sense?

What the root blog .wordpress.com subdomain address/URL is does not matter when one purchases domain mapping and maps from it to a domain.

i’m not very savy in this stuff…so what you’re saying is i would still be able to use the web address i was planning on using even though the .wordpress.com version is no longer available because i deleted it?

I think what timethief means is that if blabla1.wordpress.com is not available, you can choose to purchase the address blabla1.com (or .net, etc.). In that case, it doesn’t matter what your .wordpress.com address is (it could even be whocaresaboutmyaddress.wordpress.com)

Yes that’s what I was saying. If one buys their own .com (net, org, etc) domain and domain mapping then it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com subdomain URL is at all — it’s irrelevant. Here’s an example:
Click this link http://thistimethisspace.com
The .wordpress.com root blog subdomain URL for that personal blog is: http://onekoolblog.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
The .wordpress.com root blog subdomain URL for that personal blog does not matter. -
OOPS! sorry about the wp/admin? above – DUH
The .wordpress.com root blog subdomain URL for that blog is:
http://onekoolblog.wordpress.com
What the .wordpress.com root blog subdomain URL for the blog is does not matter when you buy your own domain and domain mapping. -
cool! can I do that all through wordpress or do I need to purchase that through a place like godaddy.com? I’ve looked at the option to purchase one here for $17 a year I think it was, but I didn’t go far enough into it to see if they ask you what you would like to name the domain or if it automatically gives you whatever your wordpress.com address is minus the wordpress.com.

There has to be a .wordpress.com subdomain URL (it matters not which one) that your content is at and that you are mapping from. You will see that only on the Admin side of the blog. What your visitors see is the URL of the domain you are mapping to .
The information and instructions are here:

COngrats! The next step is to link it to your name so people can just click and see your blog. I believe you do that on your Profile.
