Deleted blog, can’t re-use blog title!

  • Unknown's avatar

I just deleted my blog and confirmed it,
now when I try to create a blog with the same name, it says
    ‘Sorry, that blog already exists!’
    but I just deleted it!
    Oh what to do!

Nothing you can do but pick a new blog name.

It says in the email you get that the blog is gone forever and ever and ever.

Yeah I’ve deleted it, but I wan’t to make a new one using the same name.
It’s only the name I wan’t but it says the blog already exists (after deletion).

It’s a shame you didn’t read the policy first. :(

When you delete a blog there are clear warnings about the consequences of doing so. It cannot be brought back nor can the blog domain be used again.

The blog names should be made available again, after a year or so. That will not be confusing to anyone, as those who read the old blog are well aware that it has been deleted.

Please share your opinion with those who make the decisions ie. management and staff. You can do so on Monday during working hours using this link http://wordpress.com/contact-support/

You can ALWAYS change the name of a blog. Go ahead, try it. You can’t change the URL with out the domain upgrade, though.

And yes, there are cases where a blog name that’s been deleted and then come back to life more than a year later deliberately tricks people into thinking it’s the same person when it’s not.

I’m reading this and I also accidentally deleted my blog name. I have several and deleting the wrong one is easy to do. I understand that “POLICY” states they are not reusable, but I have to point out that it doesn’t make sense to prevent the same registered user from turning it back on. How does this have anything to do with identity theft? This policy doesn’t make sense.

We won’t debate policy in the forums because we’re not the ones who make the policy.

support at wordpress dot com <– send an email… staff might take pity on you.

So, this means, that if i create a new blog with a name (URL) I find cool, then delete it again, no one else can use that name??? what a pity…

I have a suggestion for WordPress: what about a “check if the name is occupied” option. As it is now, the only way to check if a name is available is to actually create the blog. That might lead to an unnecessary waste of cool names…

Agreed. It’s not something comfortable when you know somebody use your old URL and acting such it’s still yours.
But still I think it’s worthy enough if somebody at wordpress.com give a chance to the first owner of the name to get the blog’s name again. The owner can be confirmed using the same email address.

On my secound thought…. uhm… there’s still plenty of good names, right? :)
