Deleted Blog = Link Gone Forever?
-
Hi,
I recently deleted my blog (davejohnsan.wordpress.com)… don’t know why I did, but I decided to start over fresh. I signed on, went to the “register a blog” page and entered in davejohnsan for the subdomain. When I hit “submit” an error message popped up noting that the blog name was already in use.
Just for the halibut, I decided to go to davejohnsan.wordpress.com to see if, perhaps, someone else used it, though I really doubt it would have been used considering “Davejohnsan” is the name of my World of Warcraft character and no one else uses that name.
So anyways, what I’m wondering is as follows: When a blog is deleted, does the link become unusable indefinitely? Or would it be possible to either the name cleared up? And is it possible to have a deleted blog restored like it is in…blogspot.com, for example?
I’m okay with not having the blog restored. If anything, I would prefer to have the link cleared up so I can at least use it again. I honestly do prefer wordpress, but I just want my blog back.
(Also, if anyone else posted a similar topic, my apologies. I did look through the first page and wasn’t able to find anything relevant. If there was, evidently I wasn’t looking hard enough. ;) )

You did not specify a blog address or reason for posting when you created this topic.
This support forum is for WordPress.com hosted blogs only. If you have a self-hosted WordPress blog you need to seek help at the WordPress.org forums, not here.
If you don’t understand the difference, you may find this information helpful.

o.O
I do believe I did specify a WordPress.com-hosted blog. It was formerly davejohnsan.wordpress.com. In fact, I’m 100% sure because I still have my old e-mails from WordPress.com on file.

If there is any information I neglected to provide, please let me know. I’ve been posting on a few forums for almost two years, so I can certainly relate to wanting to know all of the information beforehand when someone asks for help. :)

Once a blog is deleted, the URL is gone forever: http://support.wordpress.com/settings/delete-blog/ .
The delete blog page could be more clear on that point.

Damn.
Well, I can’t say I’m pleased with that. I think I’ll look around on the Ideas forum and see if anyone feels the same way about this functionality as I do.
Meanwhile, I’m sure I’ll think of a new name to use.
Thanks for helping,

“When a blog is deleted, does the link become unusable indefinitely?”
Yes. When someone asks us to delete a blog it stays deleted. This explains why:

Telly, thank for you for linking that. At least now I understand why this rule was established. It’s just unfortunate for me because it’s the previous owner who wants to reuse the name for himself, but I’ll live. :P

I might have found a loophole.
“We cannot under any circumstances allow someone to take over a blog name that was previously owned and deleted by someone else.”
I used to be the owner of davejohnsan.wordpress.com…
Now I don’t have an issue using another one, but the wording of that quote seemed to imply that links can be reused so long as you used to own it. o.O

Sorry about that. My browser froze up and it gave me the impression the post was never submitted.

You’re being too literal in your interpretation of that, though it is poorly worded. Once you delete a blog, it, and its name, are gone for ever. I’m pretty sure it tells you that on the delete page, though it’s a while since I’ve deleted one.

I figured as such, but I wanted to make sure. I’ll just move on and forget it about, and mark this topic as “Resolved.”
Thank you to everyone who helped; I greatly appreciate it.
