Deleted bog
-
Against my best judgement, I deleted a blog because it had over a 1000 duplicate posts, thinking this was a way to flush the posts. I was then planning on importing a fresh copy without dups. Now the subdomain is not available and the WordPress team is out until March 1st. Worst part is, it is a clients site. ugh. Are there any fixes besides registering a new subdomain or registering a domain. I prefer not to take this route as I don’t want to incur additional costs for the client. Please help.

Deleting a blog is permanent. Was it domain mapped to a subdomain off of a main site?
We need more information.

If you delete a blog you will not be able to get it back and no one else will be able to use that blog name. You must be sure you never want to use the blog again if you delete it. If you are unsure, you can change the blog to private and no one will be able to read it. If you decide to use it later, you can switch it back to a public blog.
Do NOT delete a blog to transfer it to someone else.
Do NOT delete a blog to create a new username.

Yes I saw that after the fact. I was thinking it was saying that the content would just be deleted. We were just setting it up. It was a subdomain.wordpress.com. Oh boy, my client is going to hate me. I am doomed, right.

Have you tried to locate the blog content in Google’s cache? If it was indexed you will be able to retrieve it.

@harpers, it is highly unlikely that staff would return the blog after it has been deleted. I only know of perhaps three or four times that has happened, and those times and there were extenuating circumstances.
Basically you are going to have to set up another blog with another name. You might think about getting a domain name for the client and doing the domain mapping. The two together are only $15US, per year.
The other thought, if the client already has a website (and domain name) is to map a subdomain of the client’s main domain to the blog here. That way the blog would appear at something like blog.clientsite.com .

The content is not a problem, I have an xml. The problem is they don’t want to change their subdomain address and they don’t want to pay for domain. They were really set on using the original subdomain. Sounds like I am just going to have to buy them cookies, write an apology letter and hope they don’t send a hitman after me. Really, I think that is a lame rule.
