Deleted category is still there

I checked the forum and this was not asked yet, so I decided to open a new topic.
I recently deleted a category from my blog, but in the list found in the “new post” page, it is still there. So I tried the ff:
1. Checked my tags to see if the category term was there. Yes it was, so I deleted it.
2. Double checked my list of categories in the “add/edit/delete categories” area, but it was not there anymore.
3. Searched for posts for the category, again, I found nothing.However, it was still one of the category choices for new posts!
Help?

So I tried solving the problem by adding a subcategory in the category in question. It was successfully saved, but now, both the subcategory and category could not be found in the “add/edit/delete categories” part! I also assigned that subcategory and category in a new blank post, and whilst the post appeared, the subcategory and category still did not appear in the “add/edit/delete” section – so I still could not delete it!!!

If you are looking at the categories widget and see it there, do be aware that the sidebar widgets are cached and sometimes it can take a little bit of time for them to update especially if traffic is heavy. Sometimes I have seen it take up to an hour or more. Typically they update quite soon, but not all the time. Also, try clearing your browser cache and reloading the blog page. It may be your browser is pulling stuff from its own cache instead of from the wordpress servers.

Ok will try clearing my cache. And no, the deleted category and subcategory are not listed in the category widget. They only appear in the “Add/Edit/Delete Categories” section on my dashboard. Will get back to you asap.

Tried cleaning my cache, and the same problem is still there. I contacted WordPress Support for this. Thanks anyway.
