Deleted document still available

I deleted a document from the library, but the link .files.wordpress.com/2014/04/.pdf still works. I rebooted the laptop, opened the link in the browser, and there it was. It loaded so quickly that I thought it came from a cached copy, so I pressed the reload button, and the browser showed the progress bar as the reload slowly proceeded. Then I logged in to a Linux server in the USA (I’m in Norway), and used ‘wget’ to download the link, but I got ‘404 not found’, Then I tried wget from my location in Norway, and the file was downloaded.

I wonder if wordpress.com has a system of servers in different geographic locations, some of which keep a cached copy. The server in the USA did not have a cached version and searched the primary container, and determined the file did not exist, but when I access wordpress.com from my Norwegian location, the request goes through an HTTP accelerator or proxy that has a cached copy. If this hypothesis is right, is there a way I can have the deletion of the document propagate to the proxies? Or any other way to ensure that the document is no longer accessible to others?

  • Cached uploads are automatically purged eventually, but we can manually purge it now if you let us know the full URL of the file.

  • Thanks for confirming. That file has been purged from our global servers. If anyone tries to visit it now they should see a 404 error.

You can see what I see at this link: https://d.pr/i/hAaCoi

Note: If you still see it you may need to clear your browser cache, but I can confirm the file on servers has been removed permanently
