Deleted domain

    Hello, I have a problem. I owned the domain michelebergsma.com, I wanted to host somewhere else. That is why I deleted it; I can not use it at the other host website since it is ‘taken’, but at the WordPress website there is also no clear answer for me how to get it back. – Michèle

  • Hi there!

    Canceling a domain is not a good idea if you want to use it with another host – transfer is the best way to go. Right now, however, for you to be able to transfer the domain, we’ll need to recover it first.

    Your domain right now is in a state called redemption which means that we may still be able to recover michelebergsma.comas it has not yet been deleted or purchased by someone else.

    A late renewal fee of $80 will be added to the regular price of renewal. This fee is charged by the domain registry and is not one that we can waive.

    You can learn more that here:

    Domain Expiration

    If you do not wish to pay the $80 fee, you may let the domain expiration process continue and attempt to register the domain again, once it has been completely canceled.

    Thank you for this helpful answer! I still wonder what time the domain is coming back online again to reclaim it may be. Is there a possibility for you to see which date that would be?

    Regards,
    Michèle

  • The redemption period will end on November 29th, after that the domain will be pending cancel but, unfortunately, there’s no way of knowing how long it will take.

    You can keep an eye on the status of the domain from here:

    I’m curious if there is something wrong with the Whois information. If that particular domain was registered 9th November 2018 I wonder why it isn’t still in the Grace Period? It technically wasn’t even expired 2 days ago when the OP first posted here. Does the redemption period begin the moment a domain is cancelled?

  • @themagicrobot the domain was canceled on October 10th, that’s why it entered the redemption period. If it was canceled right after the registration it would probably be released within a few days.

    staff-mckluskey Thanks for the clarification. As you say, cancelling a domain is never a good idea if you still have plans to use it again.

    @michelebergsma
    I hope you get your domain back but you’ll need to keep checking if it’s available to re-register often once it reaches the Pending cancel mode. And that’s if a domain squatter doesn’t get there first.
