Deleted domain name

  I mistakenly deleted a custom domain name because I was attempting to set up the website hosting elsewhere. Though it warned me that I wouldn’t be able to retrieve it, I thought because it was set up on another hosting site, that the new website would still be able to use the domain. Is there any way to recover the deleted domain name? Thanks!

  immigrantsofappalachia.wordpress.com is no longer available.

  Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made except for the one stated at http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/.

  You can register another .wordpress.com URL and then purchase an upgrade plan so you can map to an existing domain.

  Register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/

  Purchase a domain mapping upgrade knowing it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.

  1. What is the domain URL?
  2. What is the underlying .wordpress.com URL?
  3. Exactly which username account registered the underlying .wordpress.com blog and purchased the upgrade for it?
  4. When was the upgrade purchased?
  5. When did the refund request and upgrade cancellation, or the domain expiration take place?

  Thanks for replying! The upgrade was purchased 2 days ago by this username account. The underlying URL was immigrantsofappalachia.wordpress.com; but the domain I am trying to use is immigrantsofappalachia.com through another hosting site. The cancellation happened 2 nights ago, the same day I purchased everything.

  I was attempting to switch over to wordpress.org, and self-host the site. So I deleted the wordpress.com account in hopes that it would direct people to the new site when they typed in the domain. I would still be using WordPress for the new site, though through the self-hosting version. I hope some of this makes sense, as I really don’t understand what I’m doing or talking about!!

  Hi there,

  You’re right – If you’re wanting to use your domain at a different host, you should never cancel it at your current host – once you decide to cancel your domain, there is no guarantee that you will be able to reacquire it in the future. Someone else could gain access to it. Also, it usually takes a few weeks for your domain registration to clear and become available once you cancel it. There isn’t an exact time, however, so you’ll be checking consistently to see when it becomes available.

  If you want to keep using your domain but you don’t want to use WordPress.com anymore, you don’t have to cancel it. Instead, you can move the domain to another site

  If you recently registered the domain, you have to wait 60 days before you are able to transfer your domain to a different host, but in the meantime, you can use the domain with your site by pointing the nameservers over to your new host:

  I’ll be happy to contact the registrar to see if we can restore the domain back to your account, but I cannot guarantee that we will be able to get the domain back.

  I did this EXACT same thing and am needing help! I started a Bluehost account with domain name: feedyourspark.blog and went through the same process of deleting the wordpress.com premium site. I obviously am not the most tech savvy and am learning as I go. It would be awesome if I could regain my feedyourspark.blog domain via wordpress and link it to Bluehost. Please advise!
