Deleted domain name still unavailable
-
Hi! I deleted my entire WordPress site because I didn’t like the theme and wanted to redo the whole thing, however when I try to make a new site with the same domain name as my previous (and now deleted) site, it won’t let me. So, for now, I’ve started using the name catholicdoctrinebiblestudy6.wordpress.com. But it will be great if i can change it back to catholicdoctrinebiblestudy.wordpress.com.
Wondering if you can help in making the domain name available.
thanks

Hi catholicdoctrinebiblestudy6769
You can not use the deleted site address in future. There is a warning that comes again and again when you delete your site.
Instead of deleting the whole site, you should have empty your site and start fresh.
It is possible to reverse a site deletion for the first 30 days after a site is closed. If your site is within this period then staff can help you to restore that so that you can start fresh with the old domain, if it is outside that time frame then it is not possible to use the old WordPress.com site address.
I am tagging this with ‘modlook’ tag for staff attention, please wait for some time they will get back to you on this.

Hi shubhamgmath – Thank you for responding and tagging. I did not know there was an option to empty the site. I thought deleting was the only option to start over.
If it’s beyond 30 days, will the old site address be eventually available? -

Once the 30days window is passed, all the data will be permanently deleted and you will not be able to use that site address again in future.

Thanks for the link. So even after a year or 5 years if i try to create a new site with the old name (catholicdoctrinebiblestudy.wordpress.com) will i still see the “Sorry, that site address is unavailable.” error message? I thought once a site is deleted the address will be available for others to use.
I’ll wait for a staff member to assist. thanks again. -
Hi there!
So even after a year or 5 years if i try to create a new site with the old name (catholicdoctrinebiblestudy.wordpress.com) will i still see the “Sorry, that site address is unavailable.” error message?
Yes. A deleted site is gone forever and its address can’t be reused in the future.
I thought once a site is deleted the address will be available for others to use.
We’d like to understand what led you to think that. We show many warnings throughout the interface when you’re deleting the site that state that the site will be gone forever and the address will be unavailable in the future. Here are some screenshots:
You’d have to go through all that to confirm that you understood them before you deleted the site. We’re curious if there was something else in the interface (or somewhere else) that led you to think the address will be available for others to use. Please let us know so we can improve things here.
The good news here is that we can restore deleted sites within 30 days, and we still have exactly one day before your deleted site
https://catholicdoctrinebiblestudy.wordpress.com/hits that date. If you’d like us to restore this site, please let us know as soon as possible (within a day) so that we can restore the site for you.If the site is still available to restore after you confirm, we’ll be happy to do that for you.
Regards

hello.. yes, i did see those warning messages but i only interpreted as the site content being deleted forever and not being accessible by anyone. I did not realize that the domain NAME will be unavailable for a new site. the warning messages did not convey that.
Yes, PLEASE restore the domain name “catholicdoctrinebiblestudy” asap. Thanks a lot.

Thanks for that feedback. That’s what the “Domains” in the list of “these items will be deleted” means in addition to the “
domainwill be unavailable in the future” message. Let us know how we should reword that to be more clear.Yes, PLEASE restore the domain name “catholicdoctrinebiblestudy” asap. Thanks a lot.
I recovered that site as requested. If you want to empty your site content, you can review the different options here:

Thanks a lot for recovering the site.
I did notice the list of items that will be deleted but i assumed the domain name will be available for a new site. I appreciate that you are asking a wordpress newbie for feedback. Maybe specifying the domain name will not be available even for a new site might help.
thanks again
