Deleted media (pic) but it’s still there?!

I have an image called “name.jpg” that I uploaded to my library without attaching it to any post, and I deleted it yesterday because there was an error. I re-uploaded the edited pic with the exact same filename, and unsurprisingly the newly-uploaded file went from “name.jpg” to “name1.jpg” instead of overwriting (even though it was supposed to have been deleted – this is a known WP issue, right?).

However, the original “name.jpg” is STILL THERE! Why is it not removed from my library if I have already deleted it?

I will contact WP Support about this issue ASAP, but if you know any solutions from having similar experiences then please tell me, thanks!

P.S. I forgot to mention, I know for fact that the original “name.jpg” isn’t deleted because I had linked to it and people can still see it.

  • Most likely you’re seeing a cached copy. They can take a while to expire.

I’ve seen this be an ongoing problem: always change the name of the file BEFORE you upload, which prevents this. Ther’es a long, technical explanation but I can’t find it right now.
