Deleted my blog, But can still see it, access it…..why so?
-
hi….my blog was hosted at https://chartsalone.wordpress.com . i deleted it last evening but it has not gone anywhere. Though it doesn’t show under ‘My Sites’. What can be the issue.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi there, Are these the instructions you followed to delete your above site? https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
-
It’s possible that you inadvertently hid it from displaying under My Sites, but that does not delete it. See here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/my-blogs/#my-blogs-dashboard-visibility
-
yes i followed all the instructions….i m pretty sure abt that.
And also i did not hide that blog…..i just created and then imported a Blogger blog into it, did not like and then deleted. So no question of hiding.
I am very confused…….do not know what went wrong, pretty sure that i deleted it and watched the message that the blog is being deleted. Though git no confirmation either on email or blog….

According to the above Support document, the final step in deleting a WordPressdotcom site is confirming the deletion by entering the site URL again and clicking on the “Delete this site” button.
I’ve tagged this thread for Staff assistance.

NOTE TO STAFF: Does the deletion process now eliminate the step of email confirmation of deletion?
Also, the procedure as described in the above Support document advocates emptying one’s site content prior deletion of the site and therefore prior to the step of creating an optional backup ZIP file. If the site content is emptied, then what content is zipped?
Thanks

OK- again, the site you want completely deleted is chartsalone.wordpress.com?
Just a reminder that once that site is deleted, you will not be able to recover the site content or reuse the site address.

@Justjennifer I’m wondering if this is a bug caused by the content being imported from a different platform? Last week there was a case where someone had imported content from Tumblr and then followed all the correct procedures to delete and yet the site stayed live and staff were required to fix the issue.

@themagicrobot – Thanks for that additional info! Can you add a link to the other forum thread? Let’s wait for Staff to answer here too.

@justjennifer The previous instance was here:-

It looks like there was a glitch during the deletion that removed you from the site, but did not delete the site itself. I’ve fixed that, so your site is now completely deleted.
Interesting theory. It shouldn’t make any difference, but I’ll definitely keep my eyes open for similar occurrences and see if I can reproduce it myself.
The email confirmation step was removed when the Delete Site option was moved from WP-Admin to Calypso. We (the forums staff) are trying to track if that has lead to an increase in “accidental” deletions to make a case to perhaps bring it back.
Also, the procedure as described in the above Support document advocates emptying one’s site content prior deletion of the site and therefore prior to the step of creating an optional backup ZIP file. If the site content is emptied, then what content is zipped?
I think the doc has always recommended emptying a site before deleting, but the export step was added to the new deletion flow when it moved to Calypso. I’ll see if there’s a way to rearrange or reword the doc so it makes a bit more sense.

@kokkieh – OK, appreciate the explanation about the email confirmation no longer being a part of the deletion process. Looks like I’ll be experimenting this weekend.
Just to further clarify, referring to this earlier forum thread, is it still only the Site Owner who can delete the entire site on a multi-Admin site or has that changed?
Thanks for bringing some clarity to an ever-changing environment.
-
As far as I know only the site owner can do it from the Calypso interface, but I’ll need to test using a different account to confirm.

appreciate the explanation about the email confirmation no longer being a part of the deletion process.
Bookmarked!
