Deleted my .com site. Have I messed up big time?
-
Hi guys, I have deleted my wordpress.com website thinking it would make the name available for use via another domain name registration host. However, I have no idea when my .com name will become available, as at the moment it seems it is not. Have I messed up big time or will the name become available over the next few days? I had approximately 2 months to run before my account was due for renewal.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Hi guys,
Having lost my domain name – yes I deleted it without realising the consequences. Is there anyone who can help me either restore it (my purchase doesn’t expire for many, many weeks yet) or allow me to transfer it for use on another website building provider? Is there anyone I can call? Or is WordPress.com support solely provided by a forum?
I be really, really grateful for some help! :-) -
Still looking for a resolution if possible please? Is there any official customer support? If anyone can point me in the right direction that would be great… been nearly a week now so perhaps I’m posting in the wrong place? My site pgdelaney.com is gone and I just want to either restore it, or at least be able to transfer my domain name to another website builder/host.
Thank you.

Clearly no support available… 10 days in from my original post I can only assume that WordPress cannot be recommended for anyone who may wish to receive support. My website isn’t for business and thank goodness that’s the case!!
A really poor experience.

I’m sorry your problem has slipped through the net but it pays to read through support documents such as this one carefully https://en.support.wordpress.com/cancel-domain/ before you delete anything.
Have you deleted an upgraded WordPress.com plan? You would then obviously lose access to the custom domain pgdelaney.com but you still have https://pgdelaneycom.wordpress.com of course (which you said you had deleted in your first post??).
I have added modlook for staff to respond to you in due course.

Thank you. Your reply was akin to me finding there is life on mars after all. :-)
I’m afraid hindsight is a wonderful thing – I made an assumption, which was badly wrong.
Indeed it is pgdelaney.com that I have lost and not the site mentioned in the first post… goodness knows why that link is quoted?? I wanted to edit the post but can’t/don’t know how? It seems that it’s all too easy to make an error but all too difficult to then correct it. I suppose that’s always an issue within a self help environment.
I would like to restore pgdelaney.com as soon as possible. If not then I would like to be able at least transfer the domain name for my use elsewhere.
It took 10 days for someone to be kind enough to at least enquire about my post. I thank you for that but honestly, if you’re not great with wordpress, 10 days is a loooooooong time. As I said, I grateful my site isn’t for commerce. I have learned a valuable lesson. Nonetheless thank you again. :-)

Howdy –
You’ll edit a post by clicking on My Site > Post > Post title > Edit
I can help restore pgdelaney.com back to your account. Please confirm that you’d like help with that. Once it is restored, you’ll be able to transfer it away from WordPress.com or edit the DNS records so it points to a new site.
-
Oh yes please ! It would be amazing if you could restore my site pgdelaney.com
Thank you so much. :-)
-
Glad you’re getting that help, @pgdelaney. As a quick side note, you’re not able to edit your forum posts, if that’s what you were referring to.
-
As for post editing, I was talking about the posts here – on this forum page – and not posts on my blog.
I clicked my site but there isn’t another link in the submenu titled ‘post’? We may be getting our wires crossed here? But it’s not that important, so don’t worry.I just wanted to find out how to edit a forum post to correct any errors I miss.
-
Right, so the above info from staff-zinnia will work great for your site! But you won’t be able to edit your posts for this forum. Hope that helps!
-
Thanks thebud15 yes I was referring to forum posts! :-)
People will make mistakes with forum posts and it would be great if those mistakes could then be corrected. At the start of my thread I must have copied the wrong site into the first post I made. Anyone who then checked to see if the site was down would have found a working site – that was a complete ‘red herring’ I wanted to correct the mistake but couldn’t… that seems very counter productive to me. But hey, clearly I know nothing, as all I have managed to do in the last 10 days is lose my site and very get frustrated with wordpress. :-)
-
sorry about the typo in the above post – guess what – I can’t correct it!
so ‘and very get’ should read ‘and get very’
-
staff-zinnia Yes please. I hope you got my last message? I would really like my site pgdelaney.com to be restored. Not sure if anything is happening ‘behind the scenes’ yet?
-
Good Morning –
I’ve sent a request to our domain partner asking that the domain be restored. Typically we hear back within 48 hours. As soon as I have more news I’ll post an update here for you.
-
You’re not able to edit a post after it is submitted. Correcting a typo or misinformation with a new post is the best option.

ITS BACK!!!!
Wheeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee……
(sorry that was a bit of over excitement coming through)
-
Now with best spelling etc…
It’s back!
Whoopee!
@Lizkarkowski … I’ll try not to mess up again ;-) And thank you for stepping in and helping me.
