deleted page still showing as default page

Hi…I accidentaly deleted my default page that I named “home”. I can easily create a new page, name it home and enter in the content with no problem except that, the previous page is still there and I cannot get rid of it. It’s set as the first tab, like a default page so its the first thing you see when accessing the blog. It’s still titled “home” and it’s still has the picture I uploaded to it. But, is has a message on the page that says:
    Not Found
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.
Another weird thing is that if I go to pages, it shows 4 pages…the 4 remaining pages after I deleted this page I”m talking about above…so it’s like a ghost page. I submitted this question to WP support who told me yes, you did delete it and permanently…then they told me to create another one…:-/ unfortunately creating another one is not the problem.
    Can anyone help?
    Thanks!

Please search the forum before asking questions: most questions have been answered again and again.

“Home” is not a static page (so you cannot find it under Pages>Edit): it’s just a link to the blog front (your main URL). Your blog front is a dynamic page created on the fly; it displays your latest posts by default (but it can be made to display a static page instead); and you cannot delete it.

Your front shows the message “Not Found” etc. because you have deleted the sample “Hello World” post, so it’s got nothing to display. Once you publish a post (or set a static page as your front) you won’t get that message anymore.

If you want a static page as your front, the relevant Support explains how to do it as well as how to hide the redundant header tab (the one for the page you create, not the built-in one):

    Set the Homepage

Or you can switch to a theme with no built-in Home tab – see here:
