Inadvertantly lost/deleted my post draft…only moments from concluding. I save frrquently, as does, I’m assuming, WordPress. Is there any way I can retrieve it?

Look in your Admin section to see if it was saved as a Draft Post or as a Private Post or Draft Page or Private Page.

See, here’s the thing…I did not hit anything relating to a delete command, but I did save often, which, I understand, is in addition to WordPress doing the same from their end. But suddenly it’s gone, and with it an hour or two of work. How can this happen — and why doesn’t WordPress consider this important enough to respond to my email? I would prefer to create my drafts on Word, but WP definitely discourages that. (Why?)

As you did save and did not delete there ought to be post revisions provided by the autosave feature.
The Screen Options pull down tab is located in the upper right corner of your Dashboard. Go there and be sure you have selected the Posts module. Then see if you can locate the draft post again.
If you can’t then I’m sorry to say I cannot help you only Staff can. As far as Staff responding to you there are millions of us and I have no idea how heavy the Staff workload is or what priorities they set for responses.
In the future if your use an offline blog editor like Windows Live Writer or Ecto you will always have backups of every post and page your create in theme and publish to your blog from them.
I’m sorry I cannot be more helpful than this. Best wishes for a happy ending.
