Deleted post still showing up

I’ve searched for this topic but cannot find an answer.
I had a post with a quote from Lincoln which a reader informed me was a misquote. After checking around I discovered he was right, so I tried to delete the post. First I changed the status of it to “Draft” and then “Pending Review,” but each time a link to it still showed up in my “Top Posts” widget, which led to the post. Then I clicked to send it to the trash, but it still shows up. How do I remove it completely?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Could you give us the URL of the post? It’s possible this is a caching issue on your end, so log out, clear your browser cache and cookies and restart the computer.

Thanks — I tried that suggestion but it is still showing up:

I wouldn’t worry. When I click on that I get an error message:
Sorry, the page you are looking for does not exist -

As the post has been deleted and the url now produces a 404 (page not found) you may want to use the Google url removal tool to have the data that has been indexed removed from Google’s cache. If so, then this post provides the instructions for doing that
