Deleted post still shows up on Google

Recently I wrote a blog post, published it, and then decided to delete it. However, I did a Google search and the published post still shows up on Google (when you click on the link to it the post itself doesn’t come up). Is there a way to delete the post from Google’s index or is it there permanently?

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

You can, if you have a google webmaster account, and have verified your site with them, use the URL removal request form and ask them to remove it. They may or may not remove it from their indexes. One never knows. Typically in 3-6 months it will drop off the indexes naturally as they reindex the web, but if anyone anywhere linked to that post on their site, it could show up in their indexes forever.

I have my blog in my Google Reader and I noticed when I can click on the post and it still comes up on my website, even though I deleted it. Is that normal?

A bit above my pay-grade, but have you made a new Post since you deleted the old Post to force an update to your RSS feed? I don’t think the feeds are updated until a new Post is made.

RSS feeds will show deleted posts typically. The are sort of like a running record. The link in the RSS feed though should go to a 404 file not found page at your site though if that post has been deleted. Have you tried clearing your browser cache? It could be that your browser pulled that post from its cache.
