Deleted site but can't use old domain name
-
I tried to start a free website on wordpress, but for whatever reason the pages were irreversibly messed up from when I started (likely due to my complete novice). I decided to just delete the site and start over since the pages were normal when I started. However, I can’t use the name I had for the site that I deleted. Instead, it keeps adding ‘blog’ to the end of my site name. Shouldn’t my old site name be available since I deleted the site? I would like to be able to use the original name.

Deleting a URL is intended to be a permanent act and that is why warnings are given that one has to ignore to delete a site.
Deleted wordpress.COM blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and the only exceptions are made are for URLs that were deleted 2 or more years ago. http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/
You can register another .wordpress.com blog http://en.support.wordpress.com/register-a-blog/
Adding a New Site or Blog to an Existing Account https://en.support.wordpress.com/create-a-blog/#adding-a-new-site-or-blog-to-an-existing-account
Then if you wish to you can register a domain via a domain mapping upgrade because it does not matter what the underlying .wordpress.com address is when you are domain mapping.
