Deleted site – ghost page

  • Unknown's avatar

I developed a site on wordpress that was no longer required. Although I have deleted it, when I type in the address a page appears saying my site url “is no longer available. The authors have deleted this site.”

Is it possible to get rid of this page as well, I would prefer it if there was no trace of this site?

    Thanks

I suspect that page will be there forever and a day. There are WordPress.com sites that were deleted ten years ago and they are still displaying that page.

Your site was quite recent but I suppose the thinking behind it is that numbers of people may have bookmarked a well-established site in their browser and if they visit it again and find that message at least they know what has happened to it and don’t waste time thinking there is a problem with their own equipment/connection etc.

If I ever decide to “delete” my site, I think I won’t actually delete it. I will just empty it of all content and then set it to private so that eventually it won’t appear in search engines.

Thanks. Yep I regret not doing that instead.
