Deleted the home page
-
Hi, I’ve recently started a new blog, “wefancyfantasy.wordpress.com.” Not knowing that the initial complimentary post was actually my home page, I deleted it. Now I have a message that says,
“Not Found
Sorry, but you are looking for something that isn’t here.”when I had established other tabbed pages. I tried the Help for this problem but wound up with two “Home” tabs. I then tried the help for hiding one of them and establishing a different page as the parent. It didn’t really work, I still had the original “Home” tab and all the content I would’ve wanted under the “Home” tab would be under a different page. Can someone help me understand this or figure it out? Thanks.
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Your Home page is just the blog front, and you haven’t deleted it – you cannot. You just deleted the sample “Hello World” post, so your home/front has nothing to display at the moment (hence the message). What do you want as your front? The posts you’re going to create, or a static page?

After taking some time to really look into it (I was at work and not really supposed to be on it), I did figure that out the part about it just being a normal post. Thanks though for your responses.

I did sort of the same thing, only I deleted the page. And it says “Error 404 – Not found”

@little8opeep: The home/front “page” isn’t a static page you can find under Pages>Edit; it’s a dynamic page that displays your latest posts (by default) or a static page. So either go to Posts > Add New and publish your first post, or go to Pages > Add New, create a suitable intro page, and set it as your front in Settings > Reading.

You’re welcome. Some suggestions:
• Now the (built-in) Home tab and the “Our Environment” tab take you to the same location: you can hide the latter by going to the page editor for “Our Environment” and setting another page as its parent (child pages don’t show up in the header).
• While you’re there, better deactivate the comments as well.
• If you’re going to publish posts, you’ll need a dynamic page for them too: create a new page, title it “Posts” or whatever you see fit, and set it as your posts page (in Settings>Reading).
• If you’re not going to publish posts, go to Appearance>Widgets and activate something useful for your sidebar instead of the redundant Pages and the pointless Categories, Archives etc.
