Deleted WP site content still shows on search engines

    Hi,
    I have just deleted my wordpress site rebusdesign.wordpress.com, but e.g. profile pictures from the site is still shown on search engines. Why is that? And What can I do to get it deleted completely?

    Hello @designgruppen10,
    On WordPress.COM files are stored up on multiple caches so that might be the reason why the profile pictures still shows up, but don’t worry they are cleared up usually within 3 days so once that’s done the link to your files(profile pictures) will give a 404 not found error.

    However, I am tagging this thread for staff attention. They can check if there are any cached files from your site.

    Another thing to note is just deleting the blog does not removed it from the search engine results. Google clear their caches of deleted indexed contents every 3-6 months.

    Here’s some information about Google removing the contents that produce 404 not found errors:

    Hope this helps 🙂

  • Hi there,

    There’s nothing we can do in this case. Your site’s files are cached on Google’s servers, and only Google can delete content from their servers. You’ll need to contact them if you want to try and speed up this process.

    @optidusprime we can clear the cache for specific media file URLs that might still be accessible, in the rare case that an image wasn’t deleted completely, but there’s no way to “check if there are any cached files from [a] site.” Unless a user provides a specific link that still loads the file, there’s nothing for us to check.

    @kokkieh
    Okay so you can only clear the media file from the cache when you know it’s exact URL, right?

    Got it! Thanks! 😇
