Delete/Deactivate from server

Let me start by saying I have no idea what I’m doing. At all. And I’ve read the help site and searched and I’m just a little frustrated and I need some help.

So I have a website that somebody was helping me make because I don’t know much about it. Well, basically the person creating my site (it’s a domain) signed it/me up for wordpress and when I went to my site there was one page and a homepage. Basically, I made a site on iWeb that I want to install on my domain. I figured out the FTP and uploaded it, but when I went to the site, the original (wordpress) was there. I figured it had something to do with the wordpress being on the server first? So now I’m trying to figure out how to delete this and clear everything off the server.

I looked at the help and FAQ and the person originally making it just isn’t responding to me or helping me at all, but I want to get rid of it. I went to the tools on the dashboard to see if I could delete the site like another forum said, but the “delete site” option wasn’t there and I have no idea what to do. I figured out how to get rid of the pages, but wordpress still seems to be installed on the domain/server.

I need help or guidance… And once again, I have no idea what I’m talking about so I’m trying to describe things to the best of my terminology. When I go to the site now, there is a header and two button options of “home” and “RSS” which I can assume are blogs? I don’t know. But I think in order for me to upload the iWeb, I have to get rid of this… ???

When you visit your site, your blog, what does the navigation bar on top say?
The is: what is the link to your blog, starting with http:// …?

We can’t begin to help you without the URL of the blog here and the URL of the site you want to be blogging at.

That isn’t WordPress.COM; that is WordPress.ORG. You need to be over at their forums for help, as our software is different.

Is this what you mean? If not, I can look through through the emails I was sent when they signed me up for it to see if there is another specific username or something…

We want to know if the websites you’re talking about have whatever.wordpress.com addresses, that’s all.

  • Unknown's avatar

So far, I don’t think so.

Thank you so much for trying to help me, I’m just confused and not getting any help from the person who originally installed things onto it.

I went into my emails and it seems that wordpress may have been installed to the site through simple scripts. Could this be right?

    The site you referenced above:

The site you are asking about does not seem to be hosted on WordPress.COM so you need to make friends over at WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using.

This site is for support of sites hosted on WordPress.COM. You should address your questions to WordPress.ORG the keepers of the software you are using: http://wordpress.org/support/

Okay. I actually had no idea they were different. Thank you so, so much. You’ve been most helpful.

one last question: How can I delete this post? :]

  • Unknown's avatar

You be welcome & good luck

You can’t delete this thread – only moderators and staff can do that and they only throw out spammers and a few other bad apples – so this will stay but no harm done and sometimes these help someone else with a similar question.

So I can’t delete the post with my site name in it? I just don’t want to take a chance that somebody would come across it and recognize it in regards to what I posted about needing help.

  • Unknown's avatar

We can’t help you with a WP.ORG site at all.

I actually got it. Two live chats later and I got the problem fixed. Thank you guys for your help. I greatly appreciate it.

Now I’m just concerned with deleting the post with my site name in it.
