Deleting a blog when you’ve upgraded domain
-
I would like to delete my WP.com blog because I’ve now set up a website that I will be focusing on. I’ve read the article about deleting a blog and learned that when you’ve upgraded (purchased) your domain (which I did) you can’t delete it – and if I understand correctly, best you can do is switched to the “private” setting – but the blog is still showing up on Google. This may create problems with my website because I’ve also used my name on that domain.
I also understand that I can transfer my WP.com domain name – but my question is if I go to all the trouble of doing that – then will I be able to delete this site?
If anyone has had experience in this area would really appreciate your advice.
Thanks!

If you have your own Domain – just point the domain to the new name-servers (your-site.wordpress.com can’t be swapped but you can forward your-site.wordpress.com to your new site as an upgrade)
DON’T delete your old blog – something about not being able to forward something that no longer exists – just forward it and set it to Private.
The forward option will send visitors to your new site if they try and go to your-site.wordpress.com and a fter a while Google and company will learn that your old site is not really there anymore.

The blog, even if deleted, will continue to outrank your new site on Google until your new website has as many incoming links as the old blog does.
