deleting a page name/category name on top of home page but keep on side bar

  I have successfully deleted all the contents of a category page that is listed on the top of my home page. The category and its contents remain successfully on my side bar listings of categories. How do I now get rid of the “empty” page/category listing on the top of my home page?
