  I wish to delete this site – it was just for looking around. Will the domain name remain available in the future?

  Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to re-use its WordPress.com address (such as yourgroovysite.wordpress.com). You can read about it here: https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/
