Deleting a subscriber

  • Unknown's avatar

    Hi

I’m new to this and inadvertently allowed someone to subscribe to my blog.

I’ve now changed my setting to ‘private’ so hopefully it won’t happen again, but how do I delete the person who has already subscribed?

Will they stay subscribed until they’re removed or will resetting to ‘private’ block their access?

    Thanks.

The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

Sadly they will still get notified by email and there is no way to delete them once subscribed. Even setting the site to private won’t prevent them getting notifications.

Staff need to do something about this so that if you set the site to private, all subscriptions are disabled or something like that.

    Thank you for reply.

Is it likely that a member of staff will be able to ‘unsubscribe’ a subscriber?

If not, I’ll have to delete the entire blog and start again under a new title…

In rare instances they might, but not as a general rule. Again though, they need to rethink some of this in my opinion.

You can always email them at support@wordpress.com and explain things to them and see if they will do that for you.

Also, don’t delete the blog, just leave it private and abandon it. That way if at some point in the future you wish to use it again you will be able to. Deleting it is permanent and that URL can not be used again, ever.

    Thanks again thesacredpath!

I will follow your advice and email support first, if they can’t help I’ll abandon without deleting.

Well, it’s been a learning curve if nothing else!

You are welcome and hopefully staff will do something on this front for us.

    Fingers crossed!

I’ll let you know the outcome.

Yeah, let us know what they say.

WP might look at this broadly. I’m trying to read, explore and try enough to learn for myself, but don’t yet find the ‘worlds’ of Subscribe and Register and Member clear. I bet they do work well (I keep finding great bits of WP) but I’m not that far yet. The control that Admin has over notifications (this topic) is in that space too.

The Password Protected feature enables a lot. But what about a Registration to the Site (not necessarily WP too) that pre-authorises a Page or Post (no password needed though Page or Post is protected). That Registration could be some other attribute of a user, or something else as well as Registration.

This site launches soon and we there’s perhaps one opportunity to

    (a) control Subscribers (probably we don’t want to, but I’d like to know if and how we can). For example if we start Private thus control access and Subscribers, is there an option to go Public then disallow new Subscribers? I can see how to add a few every now and then. Old subscribers could stay. Is there best practice here? Managing a Club membership must happen often though I don’t see it in the forum. Must be missing the point :>

    (b) get Club Members’ Registrations and 100% Subscriptions in one go in a way that gets them signed up for Newsletters etc and also enables future grouping of Club Members for whatever purpose. Sorry so long :<

It really sounds to me like the functionality you’re looking for is easily available at WordPress.org, but not suitable for WP.com. It’s really just built for straightforward blogging.

Thanks, yes I can see that.Just looking for boundaries. Right now I’m trying to tease out the implications of a Password Protected Post (or Page) that thus simply controls access to who can follow that Post or Page’s Comments. That Comments space becomes a kind of closed publishing space. I think.

I’m still confused by Register and wondering whether that can appear outside of a Widget area.

While I’m here I just saw a Follow popup in the bottom of my blog’s window – it was grey. It allowed an email. It had no close button but closed with an empty slot. Never seen that before. UFO?
