deleting abandoned blogs without ruining the main blog

I experimented with some wordpress blogs before committing to one and then purchasing the domain name. I would like to delete my other blogs which I am not using but continue to come up on a Google search instead of my active blog. It looks like I don’t know what I’m doing and I don’t. I did delete one but it hasn’t gone away. I just want to clean it up but don’t want to effect all the work I’ve done on my real blog. I need specific instructions I can’t find on your site or in a book I have either. Please help.

You can either delete your blogs or set them to private (under Settings > Reading) if you want them to exist but you don’t want anyone to see it.

I have read the instructions for both options several times. When I start the process though there is no indication on the screen to assure me that I am in fact deleting or hiding one of the 4 blogs I want to get rid of. I worry that I will be deleting or hiding my main blog. How will I know I am on the right one- if I have selected it can I be sure?

Do you wish to permanently delete certain blogs, or do you just wish to make them private so only you can view them (meaning you can make them visible again in the future?)
