Deleting Account
-
I have deleted my site/blog (which I wasn’t even aware I had until today). I would like to leave WordPress.com by deleting my account completely. I can’t find how to do this on my own. So, I would like someone from WordPress.com to do it. Also, I should be able to write this directly to someone at WordPress. Instead, the only available option is to ‘Ask in the forums’??? I have never come across anything like this when deleting accounts before. I have always been able to contact someone directly and have received prompt responses with resolutions! I’m hoping that will be the case in this instance, as well!

HI,
This has been answered in this previously asked question.
Please check this link

Thank you for responding. I did see that information, but am very surprised that accounts cannot be deleted. As I wrote, I have never come across that before. I posted the question in the hopes that I would be able to contact someone from WordPress and that they would respond by rectifying the issue (deleting the account).

Hi ,
I do not think WordPress looks at it as an issue.
Check out this link about recycling blog names…
http://en.support.wordpress.com/recycling-blog-names/Anyway of you still want a staff member to answer this question I will tag “modlook” so that someone from the staff can answer your query.
Thanks

Staff intervention is not required to confirm this. From my response at https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/deleting-account-127?replies=3#post-2550556 which is linked to above take note of this:
Accounts cannot be deleted so we cannot be impersonated by anyone registering and using the same username in the future. Also, note that Automattic Inc. owns wordpress.COM and also many other products and services listed here https://automattic.com/ that do require a wordpress.COM account. Therefore, account deactivation is provided and account deletion is not provided.
Registering an account here required
(1) your consent to the Terms of Service http://wordpress.com/tos/ and all policies made under it found in the support docs like this one http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/,
and
(2) an email address.Any personal information you posted anywhere was posted voluntarily. Both the email address and personal information can be removed or replaced at any time.
Here’s how to deactivate your account:
Although username accounts are not deleted, so you cannot be impersonated and have your reputation affected by anyone registering the same username in the future, there are steps you can take that amount to removing all personal information and result in leaving only a throwaway email address behind. http://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/1. You can go to My Account->Edit Profile and remove all data except the account name and an email address. Create a throwaway email address and change the account email to that throwaway address. This only leaves the username behind.
2. To unsubscribe from email sent to you from WordPress.com, go here and click on “Block all subscription emails from WordPress.com”:
https://wordpress.com/settings/notifications/3. To ensure the account is locked up tightly, visit this site, generate a password of 15-20 characters, and change the account password to it:
http://www.thebitmill.com/tools/password.html4. To hide your Gravatar profile, login and on the bottom right hand corner of your Gravatar profile page you will find a “hide” button visible only to you that you can click. http://en.gravatar.com/support/profile-privacy

You are welcome but know it is always okay to tell bloggers who do not like the answers provided to tag their thread for a Staff confirmation. They have so many threads to address that I make sure I only use modlook tagging when I need to, and that is usually in threads where upgrades are involved.

Thank you : ) For now, I’ll leave it as is. I’ll probably follow the suggested protocol for account deactivation. I’ll let you know if I’d like you to tag so that someone from the staff can answer. I appreciate the offer : )
