Deleting Account
-
I have two acc’t with the same username (i.e., (email visible only to moderators and staff)) & two different passwords. The account I’m writing from I logged into with google. This is the one I want to delete. It was created by mistake today (10-20-17). I want to keep the acc’t with outlook.com. It was my first acc’t. The tutorials about how to delete an acc’t didn’t help.

Hi @lbkennett62,
Is @lenarae60 your other username in question? I ask that based on the similarity in language in this post and https://en.forums.wordpress.com/topic/delete-a-mistake?replies=1
I’ll post this same question on that thread.
There are a lot of variables at play that I’m not understanding. WordPress.com won’t allow two accounts to share the same username, but we might have that one figured out if you posted here with your other username. WordPress.com will allow you to create a second username with a second email address, though, which may be your Google Mail address (Gmail for short).
If this is the case, then read on to neuter this account connected to your Gmail address:
You can’t delete a user account, but you can essentially take out your personal information and let the account exist with no personal information within it. Here are the steps from https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/:
If you wish to leave WordPress.com, you can easily empty and delete your site. Once this is done remove all personal information from your Account Settings and change your password to a random string. This will leave your account inactive and prevent you from gaining access to it in the future.
I’m giving you information based on some assumptions that could be wrong. So let us know where you’re at now and we’ll go from there.
Best,
Jesse -
Yes, I referring to @lenarae60. I want to keep @lenarae60. I want to delete, if possilbe @lbkennett62 [redacted as requested] If I’m unable to delete @lbkennett62 will it disappear with lack of use? The only personal information in the gmail acc’t is @lbkennett62 [redacted as requested] which refers to my name.

Really I’m not to bright! On a public forum I put private information (my name). If possible please remove my name from the above reply. Thank you!

I’ve put in a request for staff to check this post. I think they can delete your personal information or just delete that entry. Remember, if it’s any comfort, that over a billion people use their real name on Facebook these days. Nonetheless, we’ll get it deleted.
Regarding your question, I’m on my phone typing and will have to get back to you later after seeing how you might change your user name so it strips that information.
Peace!

Log back into your Gmail-associated account (lbkennett62) and follow these instructions to change the username before you strip it of personal information as outlined above:
And I kept that tag so that staff will redact your name above.
Good luck and enjoy your future blogging!

@lenarae60 I’ve gone ahead and removed your name from your above post. Do please keep in mind that you are posting in a public forum and that your name is not considered private Information here.
@jessestu – thanks for tagging. If you answer a forum post or come across a forum post where someone has added their email in a way that the forum software doesn’t redact it, a password, phone number, address or any such type of personal information, including receipt and transaction numbers, please MODLOOK the thread and also add a tag “remove personal info“. Thanks for your help!
I’ve left the MODLOOK tag for Staff to note also the issue with username accounts.

Thank you, @justjennifer. I’ve written the tag down and will use it in the future. I’m still quite unconfident in my tagging skills, so I appreciate the guidance.

@lenarae60 – You’re welcome. :)
@jessestu – No worries. If you have a minute, reading the Forums Volunteers’ support guide is worth your time. Lots of tips and tricks there. :) Cheers!

@justjennifer, I’ve read that page a few times, but on this readthrough, I’m seeing and noting the tags and best practices in “When to Call in Staff.” Thank you!

Thanks everyone :) Looks like you’re all set here, too.
@lenarae60 I wanted to address this:
will it disappear with lack of use?
It won’t, so clearing it out is the way to go if you want to get rid of it completely. Or you’re welcome to just block emails and forget about the account until you need it again. I hope that helps :)
