Deleting Account
-
Hello,
I have both a .com and a .org account with WordPress. I am running my blog, http://www.sohappyyoulikedit.com from .org.
I’m looking to delete my .com account, which has 3 websites tied to it currently:
Jamiecakesmn.wordpress.com
sohappyyoulikedit.wordpress.com
sohappyyoulikedit.comI want to be certain that by deleted my .com account, my website (sohappyyoulikedit.com) will not be impacted. The other websites may be deleted.
Your insight is appreciated – thank you!

Hi Jamie,
Your self-hosted site won’t be deleted, but the Jetpack connection between that site and your WordPress.com account will be disabled, and any features in the Jetpack plugin that rely on that connection will stop working.
From a quick look at your site this includes the sharing buttons and Related Posts section appearing on all your posts. You also appear to have Jetpack Stats enabled, and you’re using the Publicize feature that auto-shares your new posts to Facebook and Twitter.

Hi @kokkieh,
Thank you so much for this – very helpful! All of the above functions you mention that I have via my Jetpack are those I don’t necessarily rely on. If I delete my .com account, and decide I do want the Sharing or Related Posts section back, I could simply download Jetpack again, correct?
Lastly, can you tell me where/how I delete my account? I assume it’s simply the “Close account permanently” section in my Account Settings?
So appreciate your help,
Jamie

Deleting your WordPress.com account will not remove Jetpack from your site. But those features rely on a connection to an active WordPress.com account to work.
So you will still have Jetpack, but most of its features will not work and its settings will be inaccessible. Related Posts, for example, works through the posts on your self-hosted site being indexed on our servers, and then an algorithm, also on our servers, evaluates the posts to determine which ones are related, and send those back to your site to display. This cannot happen if you close your WordPress.com account, thereby severing the connection between your site and our servers, and deleting all cached and indexed data of your site we have on our end.
If you close your WordPress.com account and you still want those features, you’ll have to use a different plugin to add them.
Lastly, can you tell me where/how I delete my account? I assume it’s simply the “Close account permanently” section in my Account Settings?
That is correct, yes.
