Deleting account permanently

  I’d like to delete my WordPress account permanently . I read this: https://en.support.wordpress.com/deleting-accounts/, but when I changed my email address to a random email address there was a message saying ‘There is a pending change of your email to <NEW EMAIL ADDRESS>. Please check your inbox for a confirmation link.’ This sounds like my old email address is still left in the database. Is this the case?
