Deleting an old blog
-
I have an old blog that I haven’t used in years but it still appears on page one of google searches & I really don’t want my potential clients ending up there. I need help to delete it as I can’t seem to access it anywhere.
The blog in question is: https://shawnmoreton.wordpress.com/ -
Hi there,
First login to your WordPress.com account on the left-hand site it will show you a button which says “My Sites” click on it and then “Switch Site” and see if your website shows up there and then you can easily delete it.
Make sure you read this article on our support before deleting it.
https://en.support.wordpress.com/delete-site/Let me know if that helps.

I logged in to my wordpress account, but it doesn’t give me that option. It is an old blog site that I apparently have lost the access to. If I can somehow recover access to it I can do that, but I need to know how. Thanks!

Hi Shawn,
is this the “Original” blog you mention in your blog, the one at Blogspot?
http://shawnstephenmoreton.blogspot.com/ ??If so, Blogspot is now Blogger (https://www.blogger.com). Try accessing your account there as it is completely different from WordPress.com.
I hope this leads you in the right direction.

Hi solybarr,
It actually would ideally be both. Though the wordpress.com one is the one that shows up in google searches, so if I can get rid of that one at least, I would be happy! -
Ok well I’m going to tag this post to see if Staff can email the owner of “https://shawnmoreton.wordpress.com/” perhaps its under an old email you no longer use?.
Here are some instructions you can try while someone farther up the food chain gets in touch!
Hope this helps.

@shaw9846
There is no need for Support Staff to respond here as this is an Account Recovery issue for those Staff to deal with.Note this username account please https://en.forums.wordpress.com/profile/shawnmoreton as it matches the URL of the site linked to in the original post yopu made to create this thread.
Every WordPress.COM blog has a sole owner. It is the person with the WordPress.COM username account who registered the blog under that username account and a single associated email address, and who is the original Admin of the blogs registered under that username account.
You have to be logged in as Admin http://en.support.wordpress.com/user-roles/#administrator under the exact same username account that registered the blog to access the blog’s dashboard. The Admin login link to the dashboard for every blog hosted by wordpress.COM is:
http://NAME_OF_BLOG.wordpress.com/wp-admin/
* You will have to replace “name_of_blog” with the actual blog’s name in that URL.
I recommend bookmarking that link or memorizing it.
You can update your email address here https://wordpress.com/me
If you are not logged in under the correct username account then clear your browser cache https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-your-browser-cache and cookies https://en.support.wordpress.com/browser-issues/#clearing-wordpress-com-cookies and then login correctly under the relevant username account.
If you did not register the site under your username account and do not have the required access, then you need to contact the person who registered the account and site under it, and have them act or transfer the site to your username account by using this process. http://en.support.wordpress.com/moving-a-blog/#transferring-your-blog-to-another-user-or-account
If the login information has been lost go to
https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#lost-passwordIf you check each and every possible email address and account and are not successful gaining access to the blog(s) then you must complete the form for account recovery at this link https://en.wordpress.com/wp-login.php?action=recovery and submit it to the Account Recovery Staff, and provide proof ownership, so they can contact you by email ie. not on these public support forums, which are available to everyone with internet access.
Support Staff cannot breach the privacy policy and provide the log-in information. You have to provide proof ownership to Account Recovery Staff to gain access https://en.support.wordpress.com/account-recovery/

Please helpful read this support doc at WordPress.com Volunteers https://en.support.wordpress.com/wordpress-com-volunteers/
Are either one of you trying to get onto Staff or are you actually volunteers without that intention?
In cases where you are not 100% convinced that you have tag searched, support doc searched, google searched and have not located recent replies from experienced volunteers or staff in similar threads that provide links to backup anything you think you want to post into a thread, then my advice is not to post at all and to simply subscribe to the thread so you are emailed a correct response provided by experienced volunteers or staff. To subscribe look in the sidebar of this thread, find the subscribe to topics link and click it.

Oops! I see a word reversal and missing word issue above.
“helpful read” was meant to be read the helpful. Sorry. :( -
@timethief – Thanks for the tips! I understood that @shaw9846 was able to log in, but was not able to locate his blog in his account, so I thought that it might be helpful if a Staff member were able to confirm which account is the owner of the blog in question.
It sounds like you are saying that only the person with a certain username can have a blog with that username in the URL – is that right?
-
Thank you @timethief,
I’ll review the volunteer information once more and add this information on Account Recovery to my notes.
I’ll be more careful. Sometimes the need to help overrides the need for caution.
Best regards

Actually I am not sure how I will access it as this point. I don’t have the records for the blog in question though it is clearly tied to me & even my flickr account as images I post there still get added to the sidebar. Without the required info for an ‘account recovery’ (transaction ID, activation key, authentication code) I don’t know what to do here…
Frustrating to see this blog from seven years ago still on page one of a search. -
Hi there, so far it looks like you’ve posted here with these two accounts:
shawnmoretonphotography
shaw9846It looks like the author on that site is shawnmoreton, so possibly another account. Have you tried adding any relevant emails to the password reset form as timethief suggested above?
If the login information has been lost go to
https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/
https://en.support.wordpress.com/passwords/#lost-password -
Hi shaw9846,
As timethief highlighted, you will need to login as shawnmoreton to access the site. If you are unable to locate the email address for that account, please try resetting your password and check all of your accounts (including the spam folder).
For security reasons, we won’t be able to help you recover the account without access to the email address or proof of ownership information.
Let me know if resetting the password works.
Thanks!
-
Hi gemma, that worked! With the username I was able to figure out the password I was using back then, and make the blog private, so that it will no longer be visible to anyone but me. Thanks!
