Deleting Approved Mail that is not Trackback or Pingback

  • Unknown's avatar

Can you help me. I would like to remove my approved mail under ALL that are not Trackback or Pingback. Is there a quick way. I have 955 emails in total.

  • Hi @2healthyhabits, I’m not sure I understand — can you send a link to where the 955 emails are showing up?

Here is a sample. The 10th comment is a Pingback. It only shows 69 comments against this post. I would have to give access to my Blog to show the 955 comments. Here is the link, look for the 10th comment https://2healthyhabits.wordpress.com/2017/03/30/genetics-does-not-have-to-dictate-my-health/#comments

  • Hi there,

You can disable pingbacks on your site by following the steps here: https://wordpress.com/support/comments/pingbacks/#how-to-disable-pingbacks

This will block any future pingbacks so you do not need to worry about them going forward, but you will need to manually delete the ones that are already approved here: https://wordpress.com/comments/approved/2healthyhabits.wordpress.com

You can click on the “Bulk Edit” button at the upper right to remove batches of comments from your site.

Hope that helps. Please let us know if you have any more questions.

  • Hi again,

I also wanted to point out that it took quite some time for your site to fully load (over one minute) and with this in mind I recommend changing the post display setting you have here: https://wordpress.com/settings/writing/2healthyhabits.wordpress.com

Currently your site is set to show 80 posts per page, which is enough to slow any site down. 10 posts is a more reasonable number, and because you have the “infinite scroll” setting turned on, if I site visitor reaches the end of the first ten posts and keeps scrolling, more posts will load automatically.

    Hope this helps!

Thank you for you help about not allowing PingBacks or TrackBacks.

If I do that will I stop PingBacks someone’s ability to use my information.

If I do that will I stop Trackbacks someone’s ability to use my information.

    ALSO,
One the Pingback or Trackback is approved can I delete the comment without stopping them from using my information. I hope not because I want to freely share my Blog.

Thank you for your help. I will check into the slow loading of my Blog.

Thank you for your recommendation, “Currently your site is set to show 80 posts per page, which is enough to slow any site down….”

Please take another look at my Blog and tell me if there are any other improvements I can make.

    Very grateful,

  • Trackbacks and pingbacks don’t really allow people to use your information. Disabling them just stops comments from appearing on your site when people link to your posts. They will still be able to link to your posts so long as your site is public. Let us know what issues you’re running into with that, and we may able to help.

Also, your site loads quickly for me now and I’m on a fairly average connection. Improvements from here are just a matter of taste, like if you’d like to show entire articles or just excerpts on the main page, for example.

    Hi Supernovia,

I guess I do not understand the purpose of TrackBacks and Pingbacks. Your guidance is appreciated.

Can I delete these comments without cutting the link inside my Blog Post.

For example, in my post I pasted in a link to one of my other posts. After I approve it, can I delete it without an issue?

  • Can I delete these comments without cutting the link inside my Blog Post.

    Yes, absolutely.

And the purpose of trackbacks and pingbacks is just to help connect the two posts. Let’s say I made a post about swimming. Then two years later, I made another post and linked to the old one.

How would someone reading the old post know there was a new one, unless I went back and edited it? Or, what if someone else linked to the post… would there be a way to see, in the original post, that others had been talking about it and linking to it? Trackbacks and pingbacks achieve this.

But they’re not for everyone, so if you don’t want to use them you can disable them. And if you want to use them sometimes, you can simply trash them when they’re not needed. They won’t affect the link in the post either way.
