Deleting blogs but not my account

I want to delete four blogs I have created under ‘My blogs’ , but not cancel all my content. I don’t want to ‘delete site’, but I do want to ‘delete blog’. WP warnings are scary- can I not just delete 4 blogs but keep the site and keep one blog? Thank you for your help.

Hi timthief, So if I delete one of my five sites, I will still have four sites/blogs left. I’m doing for it. Thanks.

All blogs are independent sites and deleting one blog site registered under the same username account as other blog sites are registered under has no affect on them at all.
You must be logged in under the exact same username account that created a blog to delete the blog. Deleting a site permanently removes it and you’ll never be able to reuse its WordPress.com address:

Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

Therefore you may simply want to make the blog visibility private instead. To change blog visibility go to > Settings > Reading. See the guide here http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/ -

I just can’t bring myself to click Delete Permanently even though I want to. The warnings are so stark. The button at the end of the process says “Deleting [myname]” which implies it is going to permanently delete everything I have ever done. (BTW, myname is not my login, user name, but something else.) I want to delete a blog named Themese, not my whole profile and my other blogs. Sigh. Exasperated ;-(

You cannot delete a username account. It’s not possible.
You can delete a blog site but why do that when you can make it private? -
Please just post the username account that registered the blogs and the URLs of the blogs registered under it. I’ll tag this thread for Staff help with the deletions. Please subscribe to the thread so you are notified when they respond and please be patient while waiting.

I want to delete four blog blog/sites because I don’t believe in letting stuff float around on the web when it’s not useful. I can only imagine – no, I can’t – how much garbage there is taking up space for nothing. But since you assure me that I can delete sites with abandon and still keep my username account and one of the blogs, I’m now going to screw up my courage and delete blogs that I set up but never used or that I was just fooling around with. My ‘real’ blog is on our company website. Thanks for your patient helpfulness.

I just saw your message. Maybe together we can convince WordPress that this Deleting procedure is not clear to everyone?

Hi vestriopti,
You cannot delete a WordPress.com account (your account under vestriopti). You can, however, delete individual blogs under an account, while your other blogs remain fully functional. Think of it like having a built-in bookcase. You can get rid of individual books but you cannot remove the bookcase itself.
Once you delete a blog, it’s permanent, hence the warnings. Because you are anxious about it, I’d recommend you just set the blogs to be private as timethief suggested. That way no one can see them other than you, and if later you want to resurrect the blog or reuse the blog address, you will be able to do so.
