Deleting categories?

  New member here and I am trying to figure out how to delete the Blogroll category. Also, what is the Sidebar widget? I ran across this term as I was looking for a way to delete the Blogroll category.

  If you want to delete the blogroll category from your ‘categories’ on your blog, you can edit or delete categories by going to admin area, manage, and then categories.

  If you are talking about just removing the blogroll from the side of your page, it would be done with the sidebar widgets. You need to login to your admin area (dashboard), click on ‘presentation’, and that is where you will find the sidebar widgets.

  The way sidebar widgets work is that you drag (with your mouse) the items from the bottom that you want showing on your page and drag the ones that you don’t want from main box back to the bottom! Pretty neat system! The blogroll one is LINKS.

  If you are talking about deleting actual entries out of your blogroll, go to the admin area, BLOGROLL, ‘manage blogroll’ and then delete the ones you don’t want with those buttons there.

  Think of them as building blocks for your sidebar. You have a number of different items you can add in. You can discover them at Dashboard -> Presentation -> Sidebar widgets.

  Timethief has an article about them. I’ll let her link to it because I can never remember where it is.

  Thanks for the replies. The sidebar widget tool is very handy, thanks for explaining what it does. However, I tried to delete the blogroll and still don’t see how to do it. From the admin-manage-categories section, all I see is that you can Edit or Add a category, but not Delete one.

  the issue is that the Blogroll category is defined as the default category for the links. You need to change that before you can delete the category.

  Dashboard -> Options -> Writing -> Pick a new one for the setting “Default bookmark category” and click on the Update Options button. You should be able to go back now and delete the category.

  As drmike explained you can assign a new Bookmark category. This will help you understand blogrolls, links and categories and their relationships.
