Deleting categories

  I’m trying to delete some categories, but I don’t see where I can in this ‘new’ WordPress dashboard. When I tried their support page (https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/), all the descriptions seem to be for the old dashboard. For example, in ‘Adding Categories via the Dashboard’ section, there’s no longer simply a ‘Post’ menu with a list of ‘All Posts’, ‘Tags’, ‘Categories’ (this would’ve been where I could’ve managed/deleted as I want to!). Now, there’s ‘Publish’, under which is ‘Blog Post’…..in which I can only add categories, not edit/delete. So where can I manage/delete my categories?

  Ha, I actually found it already…APPARENTLY, the wp admin can’t be accessed via your site dashboard.

  Login, then go to your website (public view), and since you are still logged in, you have some meta options at the footer or sidebar. Click on Site Admin. THEN you can see the Posts options to manage, including Categories.

  OR add /wp-admin at the end of your site’s URL.

  WHY isn’t Site Admin linked through the dashboard instead of the website itself–it would make things so much easier! Anyway, solved!

  I’m having the same problem. I need to edit and delete categories. I don’t know how I can follow ucriepcall’s instructions though–too technical for me :(

  thehappycompassionist, I notice your site is http://thehappycompassionist.com/ right?

  So, go to http://thehappycompassionist.com/wp-admin and if you weren’t logged in before, you would login now. You’ll notice that this dashboard page has the black side menu on the left, with Post options to manage (pin icon next to it); it’s different from the light blue/gray “My Site” page that only has Publishing options for Posts.

  Go to the sidebar tags on this thread and click them. When you do that you will find the instructions.

  To edit a post (whether it’s a draft or has already been published), go to Posts → All Posts in your dashboard: https://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/#go-back-and-edit-posts

  To edit categories in your dashboard go to > Posts > Categories
