Deleting categories

  How do you delete the categories in your Blog. I only have one category that came with my Blog and It is called “Uncategorized”. How do I get rid of that category? It is really getting on my nerves and in the way of my website.

  Setting the Default Category > http://en.support.wordpress.com/posts/categories/#setting-the-default-category
  A default category (uncategorized) will be assigned to published posts if you don’t specify one. The default category can be changed under Settings -> Writing in your dashboard.

  It will not let me change any of that in writing. What should I do then?

  You have to create a different Category and set it as the default Category and then you can delete “uncategorized”. If you are not logged in under the username account who registered the blog then that could be your problem.

  Ok, but if I do that will I be able to delete uncategorized?

  If you don’t want to have any categories at all on your blog then you must purchase an annually renewable custom design upgrade and use CSS editing to remove them.

  I did that and l labeled the new category Test 1, then I deleted uncategorized but now test 1 is appearing where uncategorized was. Ughh…

  Alright then, how do I make it to where the category appears at the bottom of the page Vs at the top where everyone can see the stupid one?

  There must be a published post with a category assigned to it for there to be any data that can be displayed on a dynamic Categories page or in a categories widget.

  Alright, well I am sort of confused. I just decided to label one of the pages with — so maybe that will be a temporary fix. Thanks for your time.

  It will not “fix” anything. When we publish a post with a category assigned to it the software creates a dynamic Categories page and displays the post on it. Only dynamic Categories pages created by the software will automatically update when we publish posts. The static pages we create cannot and will not update.
