Deleting comments

  • Unknown's avatar

Hi, can anyone tell me how to delete comments from my About Me and Contact Me pages? I’ve disabled comments on those pages now but would like to get rid of the ones that are there. When I go to comments on my dashboard, I only get the last 20 and no more. TIA.

When you view the page when logged in, you should have an edit link. Click on it and one of the options will be to delete the comment. After you do a single one, you should get a page that will list all of them and you can delete them in bulk for that Page.

At least that’s how I remember it. At the very least, you can do them one at a time.

    Hope this helps,

You can delete any comment from your blog -> dashboard -> manage -> comments
each comment has this link list at the bottom by the date [ Edit | Delete | Unapprove | Approve | Spam | View Post ]

Hmm, thanks but no joy. I go to the page, edit, manage, comments, but I just get the last 20 comments and no more.

Is there a way to get all my comments to show up?

I’ve done it now but had to delete quite a few comments before the ones on the relevant pages showed up! Still, sorted now so thanks.

You’re welcome. I’m glad that in the end it worked out for you. :)

Hi, I’m new, and I read every forum post and FAQ I could find, but have not found my answer. When I set up my blog, I received the usual “Welcome” and this is your first post messages, and left them up until I completed a couple of posts myself. One of my welcome posts contained a comment–“This is a comment” etc. I deleted the original post without deleting the comment first, yet the comment icon from “Mr WordPress” remains as my only comment! When I go into the comment section from my dashboard it says “no comments found”. Mr WordPress’ comment link on my main page now just links back to the main WordPress page. I’m sure I like Mr WordPress very much, but I want to get rid of his comment icon from my page. Thanks for any help!

So you go to Manage -> comments and there’s nothing visible? Bizarre!

    Can you do two things:

    1. Try forcing a refresh in your browser on your main blog page and try it again.
    2. Provide a link to your blog so we can see it.

After that, Support is closed for the weekend but Monday, if it’s still a problem put in a support request.

When I first signed up only a week ago, I deleted the first post and it took the comment with it. I think you have a cache problem which refreshing should solve.

Wow, you folks are fast! I tried refreshing, and all my clean-up utilities (including cache), yet my friend Mr WordPress is still there! I use IE7. Here is my blog: http://MusEditions.WordPress.com/ (Drat, it seems I don’t know how to enable a link in a reply, either). Thanks abbydonkrafts and cornell for your speedy replies.

Oh, the link enabled itself when I sent….live and learn!

Well what do ya know. It’s there. I’m not using the Comments widget, so maybe that’s why I never noticed. I added it to check. It’s only showing the 4 real comments I have. That’s so odd.

I just posted a comment on your blog. Guess what? It killed Mr. WordPress. Muhaha!

Museditions – thanks for the link to your blog. IIRC you deleted the “Hello World” post, this means that we won’t be able to see the comment. It will just be sat in your dashboard.

Having done the forced refresh you are still seeing the comment in Manage -> Comments?

Cornell–when I first refeshed my page, my old Nemisis Mr WP was still there. odd. weird. etc. But, abbydonkrafts, after you posted your comment, his demise was indeed certain. And after I “approved” your comment (my first real comment, yippee!) it appeared on the page with no Mr WP in sight. I plan to hold a memorial service for him tonight. If you care to observe a moment of silence feel free. Thanks very much for the support! I think I like it here.

LOL. Glad I could help exorcise him from your blog. :-)

Actually due to past experience we recommend that the “Hello World” post not be deleted. There are times when it comes in handy to be able to edit it and use it when things go wrong.

  • Unknown's avatar

Most new members won’t know that. I started working on my blog before visiting the forum. One of the first things I did was delete that post.

    @abbydonkrafts
Acknowledged I was just sharing this with you. Sometimes we find the use of that “Hello World” page is convenient, if and when things go haywire.
BTW thanks for all the forum help you have been providing. :)

That’s cool. I can almost swear that the entry even says you can edit or delete it. I can’t be certain, though.

And you’re welcome. I’m drawn to helping people where I can. :-)
