Deleting Domain and Replacing

This is driving me bonkers! How do I delete one domain name and replace it with another wordpress one! I did go to settings – domains and then tried to add in the new website and it rejected every single variation (which did end in wordpress.com) that I tried. Any help would be appreciated – thanks!

Are you using this guide? http://en.support.wordpress.com/changing-blog-address/ Note: Unless you purchase Site Redirect upgrade then every original URL (every link) for the blog will be broken and have to be reindexed by search engines over a period of about 3 – 6 months time under the new URL.
You can delete a blog but it you do the URL (blog address) cannot be recycled and used by anyone.

We recommend making blogs “private” and using them as test blogs or as back-up blogs. http://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/If you purchase your own domain name via a domain mapping upgrade then it won’t matter what the underlying .wordpress.com sub-domain URL is.
