Deleting Media
-
Hi. I had uploaded a letter to use in a press release with the following link: https://garciapenaletter.files.wordpress.com/2019/12/garciapena.pdf. I uploaded several versions as the editing process was happening, erasing older versions as I went. Somehow, the older versions still exist in the website somehow. I need the newest version linked to the above address, and all older versions removed completely. Can anyone help?

Hi there!
Each time you upload a file, it will have its own unique URL, like the one you shared. Because of that, it’s not possible to replace the file and maintain the address, unless you use a plugin (available in plan Business).
So, what you’ll want to do it to upload the final version of the file and use that URL on the page where you’d like to share the file.
You’ll then remove the old version of the files, together with their addresses.I hope that helps but let me know if you need some further clarification.

It does help, but I am in a bind because we shared the link above with the press, so I need to make sure all old versions are gone (which I thought I had removed by removing the media files but the older links/slugs are still active and Newsweek found one of them) and update the file at that address. At this point I am willing to pay to make this happen, but I am in a time crunch. Any further help you could offer would be great. Thank you!

Do I understand this correctly?
Do you need the old file URL to redirect to the new file URL? Is that the issue?
In the future, it might be better to write the actual release as a page or post on the site versus uploading a pdf. The page+post URLs will stay the same no matter how many times you edit it.
