Deleting one of two named blog sites. Can it be done safely?
-
I registered a second site through my first one’s dashboard via the “my blog” then “register another blog” buttons. I want to know if deleting the original site can be done without simultaneously deleting the new one? Or will deleting one delete both?
The blog I need help with is: (visible only to logged in users)

All blogs are independent and no matter how many are registered under any username account if one is deleted that has no effects on the others at all. That being said I do NOT recommend dleting blogs. I recommend making them private and using them as backup and testing blogs.
You must be logged in under the exact same username account that registered a blog to delete the blog. To prevent accidental or inadvertent deletion of blogs, there are multiple warnings given that blog deletion is permanent and irreversible. Lastly, a verification link is sent in an email and must be clicked to delete a blog. If clicking that link does not work then copy and paste it into your upper browser window and click.

Deleted blog URLs are not recycled, regardless of who registered and deleted them and no exceptions are made.

I think every blogger can benefit from having a test blog. If you make it into a mirror blog of your main site then it’s an excellent way to test out widgets, themes, etc. Also if you import periodically into it from the main blog you have a backup. Scroll down to “Creating a mirror blog” http://onecoolsitebloggingtips.com/2010/05/19/how-to-select-a-wordpress-com-theme-part-1/
IMPORTANT NOTE: Deleting blog content and deleting blogs does not remove any indexed content from the SERPs (search engine page results). Google and Bing only clear their caches of deleted indexed content that produces a 404 (page not found) every 3 – 6 months.

Thanks. Very helpful but the sites don’t seem independent.
I seem able to enter the second blog site only via the first, with the first’s username and password. Also, those who “like” my second blog don’t show up as little icons as they do on the first. Then there’s the cost of buying the site which is about $10.00 more than the $18.00 I’ve seen on another, single, site. This all has me thinking the two sites are linked hence the idea of deleting the first one. By the way. I made the second one my primary blog but it didn’t alter anything.
I will try changing the visibility to private.

but the sites don’t seem independent
I have been answering questions here for over 7 years and what I typed above is 100% correct – period.

That has absolutely nothing to do with this issue at all. WordPress.com does not sell blogs. There is no $10. fee for any uopgrade here at all.
The $18. is for domain mapping is it’s irrelevant. You can register dozens of blogs and have some with paid domain mapping upgrades and some do not have paid domain mapping upgrades. Deleting any of them has ZERO effect on any other blog – period. blog and not the other.

I think you will benefit from reading this article > WordPress.com Username Accounts, Logins and More

My response to your initial info shows how two sites seem connected thus making me wonder if removing one would remove them both.
Your last response, however, that provides a link to username, accounts, etc. has what I think I really want. To quote from it, “If you have a single username account and have already registered two (or more) blogs that you do not want to be associated with each other any longer, you can register another username account using a different email address and transfer one (or more) of the blogs to the new username account.”
I shall transfer one blog to another email address/username thus separating the two forever. Thanks.

You’re welcome and best wishes. :)
