Deleting or Discontinuing a WordPress site.

I created an older WordPress.com site in 2011 as part of a class I was taking, and never really developed it. Recently, I purchased my own website with a webhosting company and now want to develop my WordPress blog on my own site rather than on WordPress.com. So I would like to get rid of the older blog on WordPress.com, and keep only the one on my website.
My question is, how to I delete or discontinue a WordPress blog site? Thanks.

Your best bet is to set your blog to private:
https://en.support.wordpress.com/settings/privacy-settings/You might also want to use site redirect, so that visitors to your WordPress.com site are forwarded to your new site.
